I almost forgot that I promised some time ago that I’d explore some of the voices and sounds I’d like to see at the Rochester International Jazz Festival this year or in the future. I’ll throw out a few here:

A while back in a post-mortem of RIJF 2005 I mentioned that I thought there should be a greater effort to showcase our local jazz talent during the Rochester International Jazz Fest. This is a start:
As you may have noticed, I didn’t get any jazz listings from City Paper in the blog yesterday. While the print edition is out, the listings on the website (the source of my weekly “City Paper” posts after Frank DeBlase graciously gave me the go ahead awhile back) are still from last week. Not sure what’s up, but here are a few highlights for Friday and Saturday, in case they don’t get them up there:
Apparently, the Godfather of Soul is going to funk it up at Eastman Theater on June 10th. That day is definitely taking on a blues orientation with Roomful of Blues and Little Feat also playing that night. Now, I might pay good money to see the swells in Eastman getting their groove on to Sex Machine.
